Did you know that real property being transferred due to a divorce is exempt by statute from documentary stamp taxes, but if you own real property, get married later, and wish to add your new spouse to title, you would be required to pay doc stamps? All that changes on July 1. The governor signed omnibus tax legislation this session (HB/CS 7087) that includes exemptions for documentary stamp taxes on an interspousal real estate transfer in the first year of marriage ( Florida Statute section 201.02.).
